I found these pine needles just as you see them here, lying on top of an old freezer that had been dumped in the woods. I was struck by the simplicty of the composition they made, by the contrast between the long simple lines of the dark toned needles and the white speckled surface beneath it, and by the sympathy between the redish hue of the needles and the rust stain beneath it.
The freezer was white, but it was in the shade, and has picked up the colour from a clear blue sky.
