This looks like a fossil, or perhaps a painting on the rock. In fact it is neither. The tree shapes on this piece of stone are crystalized mineral deposits, which naturally branch as they grow. I believe that the redish ones are a stain left behind by other crystals which perhaps stayed with the other piece of rock when this stone was split.

The "Snow flakes " in the photograph are branching cystal structures as well.
