This photograph came about in an interesting way. I left one day to visit some of my favourite sites for shooting rusted equipment and such, and discovered that each of them had been cleaned up and my subjects removed. I returned home wondering where I would find more such subjects, and as I stepped out of my truck I noted these leaves stuck to a steel beam that had been out in the rain. The rust had seeped into the leaves in an interesting way, and I knew right away that I wanted to make a photograph. I was struck by how my day was a microcosm of the spiritual journye, in which after a long and difficult trip one arrives back where one began, seeing it then for the first time.
